I just played along with the original recording. You can hear how nice the open E9th tuning sounds when I slide up an octave in this song. I've tried to play the non-pedal E9th, but I always crave the pedals and knees, so I only play pedal steel for the E tunings.
If you press down pedals A & B you have the E13th tuning.
If you lower the E's you have the C6th tuning.
If you lower string 8, but not 4, with pedals A & B down, you have the B11th tuning (you have to raise and lower string 4 and 8 accordingly throughout the song, and avoid playing them together for B11th.
