This combination of old slightly less old metas is how I build in wipe.
It solves many of the problems I had with solo/duo/trio base shooting floors while making my bases cheaper.
This is a way to get a very quick basic shooting floor to control your area without compromising the strength of the core base by using windows/doors instead of walls, and then, when/if you want to, you can invest in actual widegaps on top of that.
In addition, you're afforded a lot more creativity since you don't have to close up a shooting floor with window frames and ceilings, and you get all the functionality of widegaps and even more, for cheaper.
Try it, it's really fun!

I made a typo with the build cost of the first base :)

Now,
In Rust, you usually want a boat base almost immediately, to get those randomly spawning boats to safety.
This is a Rust base design tutorial showcasing 2 variations of Boat bases I use.
These boat bases are designed to be as cheap as possible in the game, while still having enough space for 3 boats, which is my minimum. and really, only requirement from a boat base.
I dont need my boat base to be a flank base with multiple lockers, beds, and all (though this is possible here). I just want it to be easy to build and very cheap.
This Rust base design tutorial happily applies both to Rust on PC and Rust Console Version.

The only boat bases I ever use.
What you really want from a boat base is:
1) SUPER FAST AND CHEAP to make (so I can have one within minutes of wipe)
2) Hold MULTIPLE BOATS (so I dont have to mess with it later)
3) Work flawlessly with DOUBLE DOORS (early wipe no BPs)
These do all that. And a bit more. Not much more, because theyre just boat bases. Stay grounded!

Additional Notes for the Build:
1) I use half-walls in the build because its the easiest way to show, understand, and build this concept.
This incurs a small additional building/upkeep cost as the honeycomb has to be likewise halfwalled on the first level.
Another way to do it is to close the side openings with high foundations, which is much cheaper, but more vulnerable, ultimately requiring they be upgraded to hqm, and is slightly more complicated in terms of maintaining stability.
2) The best way to continue this build is with 1 honeycomb layer and then an external multi-TC shell with high foundations. This is to keep honeycomb costs down given the half-wall first floor. The hJune 2x2 is perfect here.")

Just going over what I think will be most interesting this coming wipe, from a builders point of view.
But also some unrelated changes which I find most interesting.
In this case:
1) Less sunken treasures, supposedly (depends on mapgen and... Who knows how impactful)

2) The most incredible build sites rust has ever had (living in a cave is awful).
3) There was also this somewhat frightening commit:
Commit 61327
+ Lowering snow_ore population to 1000
+ Bumping arid_ore population to 1750
But apparently what it is, is the HDRP backport update changed map generation in certain ways, and this change is supposed to rebalance it to make it as it was pre-HDRP.
Yet Alistair DID say that Ideally players shouldnt notice much difference. So. Who knows :)

This base is an expansion of the BEST Solo/Duo base, the Grail (original), and this video is the full base build tutorial/guide for the best duo/trio Rust base.
Its not a simple rust base, but theres none as cost-efficient and survivable.

*** WHAT DOES THE GRAIL V2 DUO/TRIO BASE GIVE ME? ***
1) NEVER GET WIPED BY OFFLINERS.
You have 9 bunkers. Spread your loot wisely and youll always have what you need to continue like nothing happened, even if offlined.
The esimated raid cost of 70+ rockets is for a full raid of all lootrooms (including bunkers and main TC) but thats lowballing it maybe.
The main core is ~60 by itself, and theres 6 more bunkers outside of that, and also not counting bedroom and gatehouse storage loot.
So just spread it around. An offline may rob you of a little bit of loot, but youll be right as rain next day.
2) DOMINATE YOUR AREA.
You have a mini-china-wall designed like a shooting floor, meaning that you have at least 2 peeks for every point outside the compound. But usually many more.
3) FARM LESS.
This base is significantly cheaper than any base of even remotely comparable strength, and thats theoretical, because there are no duo/trio bases of comparable strength excepting my Trio Heaven.
4) EASY AND FUN ONLINE DEFENSE.
You have 6 double bedrooms (2 beds + locker) divided between mini-china-sall compound and base. It will take great concerted effort to stop you from respawning in safety, with kits, and defending your base.
5) UPDATES TO THE ORIGINAL GRAIL
If you dont want the mini-china-wall and added cost, using this as (the best) solo/duo base, there are still important improvements over the original Grail that are worth your time. There are also updates to the build which were forced by FACEPUNCH changing how some things work.
Rough Build Cost Estimate (Tiles & critical deployables):
55k metal, 62k stone, 240 hqm.
TIPS/TROUBLESHOOTING:
1) If the TC pixelbunker doesnt show up, try building it from the left triangle instead of the right one. Also reverse the order of the second TC pixelgap layer (build the two halfwalls standing on the middle triangle, adjacent the first tc gap, then destroy the lower one, step out, and rebuild it from the outside.)
2) I ALWAYS, ALWAYS HQM my first external TC (just the bunker part, not the stone doors part).
This is critical because of a trick I found where you can grief multi-tc bases very cheaply (check my channel, ull find it).
3) For further upgrades than shown, start with the shooting floor supports, platforms, and window frames. You can also add stone frames under the shooting floor bedrooms just to make sure those are safer against collapse.
4) Want a much cheaper base thats nearly as strong? Omit the china-wall :)
This base will still be a monster with just the two gatehouse bedrooms with their turret pods and high stone walls around that.
5) You can pixel-gap the TC immediately, if you dont honeycomb the TC triangle and just make the second floor lootroom on hanging triangles. Just upgrade them to metal. Honeycomb when you have 50 hqm for the TC walls :)
