Rocky Mountain National Park - Day 1
We begin our video at the Grand Lake Entrance Station of Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. This is the west entrance to the park, and it sits on US Highway 34 just north of Grand Lake, CO. This stretch of road through the park is also know as Trail Ridge Road.
Once we enter the park we wind our way up into the mountains. We make a stop at the Farview Curve Viewpoint to capture some beautiful views. We then go up the road to the Continental Divide (Milner Pass - 10,759 feet.) Even though this is the Continental Divide, the road keeps going up. Eventually we get above the tree line. At this point, the road curves through the treeless tundra offering dramatic views of the surrounding mountains.
We make some scenic stops at the Lava Cliffs Overlook and Forest Canyon Overlook. We then turn around and drive back over the scenic road in the opposite direction. By this time the weather has changed, giving us a different perspective of this beautiful landscape.
We explore more of this route in extremely different weather conditions in our Day 2 video, and we explore points on the east side of the park that we did not get to in this video.
