We take a drive deep into the Mojave Desert in California. We begin at the California state line on Interstate 15 South. We drive for a few miles until we reach the Nipton Road exit. We take this exit, and we are immediately off the beaten path in the middle of the desert.
We turn on Ivanpah Road, which takes us into the Mojave National Preserve. Soon thereafter, we turn on Morning Star Mine Road, which leads us through a large area of Joshua trees and through the tiny town of Cima. We continue on Kelso Cima Road to the town of Kelso, which features a historic railroad depot.
After passing through Kelso, we turn south on Kelbaker Road. This road takes us through some valleys and past some rocky hills until we reach a portion of the original Route 66 just east of the town of Amboy.
We pass through Amboy and catch a glimpse of the famous and historic signage in this town. We then turn on Amboy Road. This road takes us through an extremely barren and desolate stretch of desert before passing through some hills and dropping into an area called Wonder Valley. It is here that we end our trip for the day.
