A Rock Ptarmigan shakes dirt onto its feathers to help it blend in with the spring surroundings. The bird's plumage hasn't fully changed out of its mostly all white winter colors and so the dirt helps it stand out less in the tundra that doesn't have much snow left in Alaska.
