The Storm is here. My first original album (and technically 13th/14th release in general) PROJECT DISCOVER is finally available, and while it's just five tracks I think it's clear I put more effort in these songs than any cover quite possibly. After about 4 years of thinking about it, 10 years of putting it off in favor of building a cover fanbase, and maybe 2 years of recording I can share my story of an exiled warrior discovering what really matters. Musically I leaned heavily on my progressive-metal influences and ideas for the faster riffs, and you can hear some of the ones I wrote in an older game album too! The idea of using a big chorus with simpler melody came from a lot of my favorite vocal-driven songs but also artists like Steve Vai and Plini who work more remarkable lines into those moments! The break of course comes from a hybrid of my favorite prog artists and more classical-Indian music (as well as the fusion artists from India bridging these gaps) - leading us into my other side, the progressive rock and jammier moment where I could do a solo meshing these worlds! Blues, Indian classical, heavy metal, modern prog and all, kind of fighting it out inside the storm as they do me! The final lick is a direct reference to a cover I did on sitar years back, so with that we have about 4-5 album motifs represented!
Video-wise, where to start but HUGE thank you to @CodyPyper for the outstanding help working with my concept story for Storm, shooting the music video and definitely doing some solid creative directing that you can see from the gorgeous lighting setups. For the first time, I rented a small studio space for a few hours and we went to work designing two sets - a stormy blue set with Thunderstorm FX crashing down, and a softer "peach sunset" look for the middle-section. As the song and album in general play off an Identity theme heavily, I thought the Blue Storm can represent more of the chaotic modern metal and harsher land the protagonist comes from. When we break to the more Indian instrumentations and softer guitars, I pictured the sky clearing out and the New Land in the distance - to recreate those ideas so beautifully was exciting and I hope you can see the duality as a neat part of the song! Even more honesty I think it speaks to 2nd-generation immigrants like myself who want so many things out of our own heritage, the world we're around, and are conflicted in how to live that way. Nonetheless, this was an outstanding and very new video process I couldn't do without Patrons, direct supporters of my last albums and Spotify listeners especially so I can't thank you all enough! Note that this is also my first video filmed in 6K (off Cody's Blackmagic Pocket 6K), and a few B cam shots off my Sony - I intentionally changed the aspect ratio because of the more cinematic, wide studio look that I thought would help distinguish how this video is for me!
