‘Reveal the Grail, open the shrine!’
PARSIFAL is a monolith in the canon of late Romantic music: conceived as ‘Bühnenweihfestspiel’, here we encounter the harmonious evocative power of Wagner's late work, set between the Grail mountain and the magic garden motif, iconography and ritual, medieval legend, Buddhism and New Testament Christianity

Director Philipp Stölzl calmly and carefully recounts this opera tale in rich tableaux vivants, placing questions about the potential for aggression and fanaticism in hermetic religious communities at the centre of his exploration.
