Caught at the right moment: We asked Chorus director Jeremy Bines after a rehearsal about his current favorite project.
One conductor, six soloists, 139 musicians and 169 choristers: Arnold Schönberg's oversized and formally almost uncategorisable oratorio ‘Gurrelieder’ is considered a turning point in music history: while in this monumental work, lasting almost two hours, over 300 participants once again pull out all the stops of late Romantic music, the work also points far into the future. Or as Schönberg said: ‘The work explains everything that was to come later.’
On 10 February 2026 at the Berlin Philharmonie – under the baton of Sir Donald Runnicles, AJ Glueckert, Felicia Moore, Annika Schlicht, Thomas Blondelle, Thomas Lehman, Thomas Quasthoff, the Rundfunkchor Berlin and the Chorus and Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
