Yesterday evening, the #RFS CH-47D Chinook and a Bell 412 helicopter were loaded onto Royal Australian Air Force C-17s before departing for France to support ongoing firefighting operations.
Once in France, the aircraft will be reassembled before undertaking vital aerial firefighting operations in support of firefighters and communities across the country as they continue to experience significant fire conditions.
With this deployment to France, followed by personnel deploying to Canada later this week, the RFS will have personnel and resources operating across four countries and three continents simultaneously, a first in the Service's history and a reflection of its continued commitment to supporting international firefighting partners.
