The #RFS Chinook and Bell 412 have continued supporting firefighting operations across southern France, with the contingent continuing to operate out of Mont-de-Marsan.
Since the deployment began, the Chinook has dropped more than 280,000 litres of water on fires, most recently supporting firefighting operations at a fire near Luglon in the Landes region.
The aircraft are now also undertaking night waterbombing trials with French authorities, as they work to integrate this new capability into their firefighting operations. If successful, this would be the first night waterbombing has ever been conducted in France.
Thankfully more favourable weather conditions have helped firefighters gain the upper hand on several of the large fires burning across France. For the time being, our contingent and aircraft will remain at Mont-de-Marsan, ready to rapidly deploy and support firefighting operations should significant fires break out across southern France.
