The next episode of Re:Zero is shaping up to be one of the most brutal of the season. Early reviewers are already losing their minds over it, with Ice even giving it the second-highest rating across Seasons 3 and 4.
The episode opens with Subaru excited about being isekai’d before the cast catches him up on everything he’s forgotten. Reviewers especially praised the reactions to his amnesia, particularly Ram’s confrontation, which adds a lot of emotional weight to the first half.
But it's the second half that has everyone talking.
After being pushed down the stairs and returning by death, Subaru mistakes the experience for a precognitive dream. As the atmosphere grows increasingly unsettling, he becomes more isolated from the group, especially after overhearing people talking behind his back. The tension steadily escalates until it culminates in the second staircase death.
If the adaptation pace holds, the Aura Monster staircase scene should arrive in the first half of next week's episode.
