Cecilus is often labeled the fastest man alive in Re:Zero, usually ranked just below Reinhard van Astrea—but that common belief doesn’t actually hold up. In this video, I break down why Cecilus Segmunt is canonically faster than Reinhard van Astrea, and why this isn’t a fan theory but a statement made directly by the narrator. Cecilus’s speed is so overwhelming that his thought acceleration allows him to master a weapon by swinging it hundreds of millions of times in his mind, to the point where the world may as well be frozen from his perspective. He’s even described as fast enough to dodge raindrops if they were replaced with literal light.
This also highlights a bigger point about Re:Zero’s power scaling. Reinhard is not the best in every category. Cecilus surpasses him in speed, Halibel surpasses him in technique, Mad Prince is harder to kill, and the Four Great Spirits possess greater mana. Several characters outclass Reinhard in specific areas, yet despite all of this, his position as the strongest character in Re:Zero remains absolute.
