Responsible Software Engineering of Prosocial Lived Experiences | Keynote by Prof. Bashar Nuseibeh | 14th Computing Conference 2026
How can software engineering evolve in an era shaped by Artificial Intelligence, autonomous systems, and increasingly complex digital societies? In this thought-provoking keynote, Prof. Bashar Nuseibeh explores how software engineering must move beyond building reliable software to designing technologies that actively support responsible, ethical, and prosocial human experiences.
Drawing on decades of pioneering research in software engineering, Responsible AI, adaptive systems, security, privacy, and human-centered computing, Prof. Nuseibeh argues that future software engineers should focus not only on technical excellence but also on creating systems that contribute positively to society. He examines how computing professionals can integrate ethics, human values, social awareness, and interdisciplinary collaboration into the design of next-generation intelligent systems.
Delivered at the 14th Computing Conference 2026, this keynote offers valuable insights for researchers, software engineers, AI practitioners, HCI specialists, computer scientists, graduate students, policymakers, and anyone interested in the future of responsible technology.
In this keynote, you'll learn about:
• Why software engineering must be reimagined in the age of AI-assisted development
• The meaning of responsible software engineering and prosocial computing
• How digital technologies influence human behavior and society
• The importance of designing software that promotes social good while minimizing harm
• Human values, ethics, fairness, and adaptive decision-making in intelligent systems
• Context-aware and socially adaptive software systems
• Responsible AI and the future of software engineering research
• Human-machine collaboration in sociotechnical systems
• Digital humanism and its impact on computing
• Emergency response systems, autonomous technologies, and value-driven software design
• Interdisciplinary collaboration between computer science, psychology, medicine, and the social sciences
• Preparing the next generation of software engineers for ethical AI and responsible innovation
