AI-Supported Software Engineering: Beyond Code
Keynote by Prof. Stefan Wagner, Technical University of Munich (TUM)
Future Technologies Conference 2025
Artificial Intelligence is reshaping the entire software development lifecycle — not just code generation. In this insightful keynote, Prof. Stefan Wagner, a leading researcher in software engineering and AI, explores how Large Language Models (LLMs) can support requirements engineering, software architecture design, and human-centered AI collaboration.
From generating high-quality requirements to producing architectural diagrams and domain-driven design models, this talk shows how AI can accelerate early-stage software engineering while keeping human expertise at the center of the process.

🔍 What You’ll Learn in This Talk
✔ Why software engineering is much more than code generation
✔ How LLMs can support requirements elicitation and quality improvement
✔ The “RecBrain” system — an open-weight, fine-tuned model trained on 44,000+ real-world requirements
✔ AI-assisted generation of ISO 29148-compliant requirements
✔ Architecture modeling with LLMs, including:
• Use case modeling
• Domain-driven design (DDD) workflows
• Event storming simulations
✔ Real case studies with industry partners on LLM-based architecture design
✔ Strengths, limitations, and key risks of AI in software engineering
✔ Why human-in-the-loop processes remain essential
✔ A future vision: Cooperative “engineering agents” across the entire SE lifecycle
From ABS braking systems to large microservice architectures, Prof. Wagner demonstrates where AI truly helps — and where it still falls short.
