Residents blast Asian wedding venue over fireworks and revving supercars

Residents living near an Asian wedding venue in Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire, say they have been kept awake by fireworks, loud music, ceremonial drums and guests revving supercars. The Monal by Jalwa can host up to 800 guests, with locals claiming there can be as many as three weddings a day during the summer. Some residents say celebrations regularly continue beyond the venue's 11pm curfew, while others complain of cars blocking pavements and fireworks disturbing children. The venue opened in June 2025 after a major renovation of the Grade II-listed former church. Kirklees Council said it is aware of ongoing noise concerns and is working with West Yorkshire Police, other agencies and the venue to find a suitable resolution.
