In this video I want to expand that idea and tell you how to change your habits and your way of thinking.

What I would ask you right now is to think about what thing in your life or yourself you are unhappy about. Common things people want to change are self confidence, self discipline, work ethic, relationships, social skills, and the ability to earn money.

Choose the main thing you want to improve, you can apply this idea to anything.

Let's first talk about why we are how we are and why we have the habits that we do. For this we need to understand how the mind works.

In the 1930s dr Thruman Fleet gave us a drawing of the mind and explained how it works.

He said let this represent the mind and this represent the body. Your mind has two functions: there is the conscious mind and subconscious mind.

The conscious mind is the mind that thinks and makes decisions, the subconscious mind the part that takes the repetitive actions of the conscious mind and makes them automatic. The body then acts the way the subconscious mind is programmed.

Here is an example of how this works: learning to play the piano.

At first you can't make your hands move right. Every movement is controlled by your conscious mind, all your attention must be there.

But if you practice, practice, practice, after a while your hands start to move by themselves. Finally you get to the point where you can play the piano beautifully while having a conversation. It doesn't require any conscious activity anymore, it's controlled entirely by your subconscious.

So the subconscious mind basically takes the repetitive actions we do an turns them automatic so we can focus our attention on something else.

So how did we become who we are now?

Through the repetitive actions and thoughts we had until this moment. If you procrastinated a project until the last day several times, that's a habit now. If you have been telling yourself you are shy that's part of who you are now. If you've been drinking a beer every night, that's a habit.

We do things we are used to doing without giving them any conscious thought.

So how do you remodel yourself as the person you want to be?

Currently psychologists know of only two ways to change a habit or belief.

A powerful emotional event
Repetition
We cannot control the first one, those are life events. So what we are left with is repetition, in this situation also called autosuggestion.

You need to repeatedly think and act as the person you want to be until your new actions and thoughts become your habitual behavior.

You may say this is stupid. It's not stupid. This is exactly what I did in the last two years.

Radu the fitness guy you see today did not exist two years ago. I never told you the story of how I started doing what I'm doing but it was not passion, it was autosuggestion. At some point in 2014 I decided I wanted to create a fitness like Greg did. Greg however lives fitness, it's who he is. He's been into fitness all his life so in his business he is just being himself.

I on the other hand wasn't anything like that. As a kid I didn't like any type of sport and I loved video games. So I had to create the person I am.

The famous actor Cary Grant used to say: "I acted like Cary Grant for so long I became him". I could say the same thing: I acted like Radu the fitness guy for so long I became him.

Let me tell you what I did. I crated a goal card for myself. I written here the person I wanted to become. And I read this every day out loud for more than 2 years.

I picked up this idea from the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. Here are the steps I followed to create my goal card.

Pause the screen and read this in full.

First of all I picked a goal and set a time limit for it. This is written in the present tense so when I read it I have to imagine it.

Next comes the important part: What you will give in return for the good that you desire. There is no such thing as something for nothing. Jim Rohn used to say: Affirmation without discipline is the beginning of delusion.

I agree.

So I said this: In exchange for this goal I give the best services I'm capable of, I study and I develop my skills every day. No matter what your goal is, you need to give something in order to receive it. In my case it's a business related goal so naturally I have to serve people. If it's a relationship goal you need to give effort in developing your personality.

Once you decided what you need to give, start immediately. This is autosuggestion. You give yourself an command for how you need to behave and then you do it.

If you do it long enough, it will become a habit. When that happens you will start doing productive actions without any conscious thought.
