Rejuvenated Geyser (2025)
Geysers are hot springs that episodically erupt columns of water. They occur in few places on Earth. The highest concentration of geysers anywhere is at the Yellowstone Hotspot Volcano in northwestern Wyoming, USA.
Rejuvenated Geyser is located 90 meters east-northeast of White Dome Geyser in Yellowstone’s Lower Geyser Basin. The vent is at 44° 32’ 22.57” North latitude, 110° 48’ 06.41” West longitude. Rejuvenated Geyser is also known by the catalog designation “UNNG-WDG-1”. It was active from 1971 to 1986 with eruptions reaching less than two meters high. In terms of above-ground activity, this geyser has been dormant for many years. Renewed eruptive activity was first reported in February 2015 and the feature was subsequently nicknamed “Rejuvenated Geyser”. It has been active from 2015 to 2025 at least. Eruption durations and intervals (= eruption start to eruption start) have varied over the years. Reported durations range from less than 10 seconds to almost 7 minutes. In recent years, the geyser has had discrete “long” and “short” eruptions, but the durations and intervals of each vary from season to season. Reported intervals from 2015 to 2025 ranged from ~3 minutes to ~40 minutes or more. One or two short pauses can occur near the end of “long” eruptions.
