Can the ancient lyre be part of an experimental contemporary music band, and be an equal partner to an electric guitar or drums? Reggetiko Project took up the challenge, and this is what they explore in their 4th album, soon to be released on all major music platforms.
"Jerry" will be part of the latter, a new composition with Theodore Koumartzis on a LUTHIEROS ancient lyre, Socrates Votskos on the saxophone, Marios Podaras on the electric guitar, Linos Tzelos on the electric double bass, and Nikos Varelas on the drums.
🎙️ About the Reggetiko Project
Reggetiko Project is a Thessaloniki-based band creating ephemeral musical mosaics featuring ancient and modern instruments. Formed in 2012, the band performs original compositions melding folk, jazz, and ancient sounds from east and west of the Mediterranean. Through cinematic improvisational arrangements, the melodies narrate journeys between a tapestry of diverse cultures interwoven across time reiterating the band's distinct philosophy and geography: music as a pathway for diverse voices to commune.
Project Reggetiko’s third album "Albatross" features the legendary grammy awarded Bulgarian pianist Milcho Leviev. The music documentary film about their collaboration screened at Santorini film festival 2021. "Albatross" was presented on the official European Music Day at the Museum of Mastiha of Chios, followed by the Domna Samiou festival at the Concert Hall of Athens (Megaro Mousikis), the Keep on Jazz and Beyond Festival of Thessaloniki, and the Rialto World Music festival in Cyprus. RP accompanied Kostis's Kostidakis Shadow Theater at Rialto concert hall in Lemesos (Cyprus). They have been presented at Palermo of Sicily and toured throughout Greece, Cyprus, Istanbul, and extensively in Germany.
RP's music is a meeting point of Folk Fusion with World Jazz, with several references to Mediterranean musical traditions and several Ethnic tones, and a cinematic narrative mood with strictly original compositions by its members.
