Testing the newly released PC port of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart using a 7200RPM 500GB SATA hard disk drive
Insomniac's brief when developing Rift Apart for the PS5 was clearly to show off the console's new super fast solid state storage. Even in the first half hour, there are examples of world transitions that the old PS4 could never have achieved with its spinning rust hard drive...
... or could it? Now that Nixxes has ported the game over to the PC, it's possible to test in on any type of storage that can Windows can recognise - including a hard drive. In this quick video, I have tested Rift Apart on both a Gen 3 NVMe SSD and a 7200RPM hard drive to see how big of an impact using old fashioned storage media has on this new generation game.
