On Monday, March 31st, the Samaritan's Purse DC-8 paid another visit to Calgary!
The plane is the very last operational Douglas DC-8 based in North America, and is now 56 years old! It was here a year ago bringing in an emergency field hospital to be based in Calgary and deployed by Samaritan's Purse Canada.
Following the recent tragic earthquake in Myanmar, the Canadian field hospital will be deployed for the first time, and the DC-8 will be flying it and 28 disaster response specialists there.
It took off first in the morning on Tuesday April 1st, but then diverted back to Calgary due to a cargo issue, and departed again the next day.
It was also announced recently that Samaritan's Purse will be retiring the DC-8 by the end of the year and replacing it with a 767. Although under unfortunate circumstances, it is such a treat to see the DC-8 here again, still hard at work. Enjoy the video!

On Sunday, August 28th, FedEx sent one of their McDonnell Douglas MD-10 freighters to Calgary on the usual flight from Memphis.
This marks the first time a DC-10 of any sort has been to Calgary in over 7 years, since Kelowna Flightcraft stopped flying theirs here in 2015.
Personally, these are some of my all time favourite airplanes, and what makes this even more exciting is that these and the larger MD-11s will apparently become a regular sight here over the next couple months.
So, my sincere thank you to whoever at FedEx made that decision, and enjoy the video.

Montreal Mirabel International Airport, located north of Montreal, was originally built to replace Dorval Airport as the main airport of Montreal.
Passenger service to Mirabel ultimately didnt stick around for a variety of reasons, but the airport now serves as a busy cargo hub for Montreal, as well as a base for Nolinor Aviation, Pratt & Whitney Canada, and Airbus.
Theres a surprising amount of interesting aircraft to see here, as I found out during this visit for the Pratt & Whitney Canada 747SP back in May!
