A few weeks ago, on Family Day, a fly-in was held on Gull Lake in Central Alberta.

Gull Lake is located just northwest of Red Deer, and each winter for the past 11 years, an ice runway has been built on the lake by a couple local pilots.

The runway is usually open from January until March, but Family Day in mid-February is when the fly-in takes place. Aside from the ice runway, airplanes, and helicopters, there's also a skating rink, free food, and is just a great day out.

I've known about this for a few years and have always wanted to drive up for this, because, well, the novelty of general aviation planes on ice is not lost on me! This year, things finally lined up and I was able to film this 20 minute long compilation of most of the day's visitors.

A huge thank you to both Doug and Jim for all their effort in putting on a fantastic event, and enjoy the video!
