On December 1st, 2017, I spent the day drifting toward the Monticello Rwy. Museum to catch the operation of their Polar Express train. Throughout the day I caught several trains at location around south central Illinois.
First is an on-time Amtrak City of New Orleans #58 making its station stop at Effingham.
Second is a CSX eastbound stack at Effingham.
Third is a northbound CN manifest at Neoga.
Fourth is a southbound UP frac sand train at Tuscola.
Fifth is a westbound NS manifest at Bement.
Sixth is an eastbound NS stack just west of Bement.
Seventh is a westbound NS manifest switching at a small yard just west of Bement.
Eighth is an eastbound NS stack just west of Bement.
Ninth is the eastbound Triple Crown at Cerro Gordo and
tenth just after the eastbound comes the westbound Triple Crown.
Eleventh is an NS westbound autorack train.
At that point I head up to the Museum and catch the crew getting the train switched and in position. Power is the Wabash F-7 #1189, and the train consisted of several passenger cars and a CP steam generator car.
After that I took a look around the museum grounds and hung out with the tower operators learning to operate the interlocking.
