Here’s your latest roundup of what’s new in AR & VR!
First up, Quest OS v76 is here, and it’s a big one—this update moves the system to Android 14, bringing better performance and new capabilities. The update also adds Avatar Selfies, which will even work as a camera feed in third-party apps. Meanwhile, new permission changes have been spotted, and there’s a new tutorial datamined, suggesting more refinements on the way.
On the industry side, the UK is now using VR headset prices to help measure inflation, showing just how mainstream XR has become. But not all companies are pushing forward—LG has officially ceased XR product development, though they’ll still continue R&D. Meanwhile, Bigscreen Beyond 2 is selling out fast, proving there’s strong demand for ultra-lightweight PC VR.
Over in Apple’s camp, they’re splitting their Vision teams, separating visionOS from hardware—likely to streamline future development. Meanwhile, Valve’s mysterious Deckard headset had some leaked POC details surface, but shortly after, Valve removed the files from GitHub, fueling more speculation about what they’re planning.
