Hey everyone! Here’s your latest roundup of what’s happening in the world of AR & VR.
First up, Meta’s CTO shared why the Quest Move fitness tracking feature is being shut down — basically, it wasn’t delivering the impact they hoped for. He also opened up about the Oculus brand, saying he genuinely loved it and wished they could’ve kept it around.
Meta also highlighted that users have now spent over $2 billion on Quest content, and they’re not slowing down — they’re still investing heavily in VR gaming and have no plans to pull back anytime soon. That said, their push to rebrand everything under “Mixed Reality (MR)” stirred some controversy, and the CTO had to respond to developer concerns around the change.
On the hardware front, Bigscreen just revealed the Beyond 2 and Beyond 2E headsets — lightweight form factors with some nice improvements for enthusiasts. But if you’re looking at pro-tier gear, the new Varjo XR-4 will require a $2,500/year subscription just to access its full mixed reality features.
