Queen Street Mill is about 2 miles outside of Burnley town centre. Built around 1894, inside 900 looms worked to create Calico cloth, an unbleached fabric. The mill was steam powered, with water stored in an outside mill pond that was filled naturally with rain water.
Surviving a massive fire in 1918, the mill eventually closed in 1982, but was saved by Burnley council and is now run as a working museum, still powered by the originally steam engine 'Peace', making it the only surviving 19th century mill in existence to still be run by steam power.
