The Atari Lunar Lander is one of the most important arcade games ever made and now it’s back in stunning form with the Quarter Arcades 1/4-scale Lunar Lander. In this review, I take a deep dive into the history, gameplay, controls, and authenticity of this fully playable miniature arcade cabinet.
We start with the Moon Race era, from JFK’s famous speech to the Apollo moon landing, and connect that moment in history to Atari’s 1979 Lunar Lander, a physics-based vector arcade game inspired by real NASA simulations. Then we break down how Quarter Arcades recreated this classic with incredible attention to detail, from the cabinet proportions and vector-style display to the precise thrust and rotation controls.
