Many of our Protestant brethren claim that the Catholic Church added seven books (the deuterocanonical books) to the Bible at the Council of Trent.

The Catholic canon was affirmed and clarified at various councils and synods centuries before the Protestant Reformation and the Council of Trent. Examples they mention include the North African councils that St. Augustine participated in (in the 4th century), as well as the Council of Florence (which took place during the 15th century).
