Many argue that Matthew 1:25 disproves Mary remained a virgin for the rest of her life, implying she had marital relations with St. Joseph.

However, this way of speech is seen throughout the Scriptures and its intention needs to be understood. An example of this kind of wording can be found in 2 Samuel 6:23 where Saul's daughter Michael bore no children for the rest of her life.

If one were to apply the same reasoning used by those who deny Mary’s perpetual virginity, this phrasing would imply that Michal bore children after her death—which is impossible.
