The gift of prophecy allows us to hear the voice of our Shepherd and to be led by Him. His voice is heard consistently through the presence of the Holy Spirit
John 10:25-30 NASB
Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe; the works that I do in My Father’s name, these testify of Me. [26] But you do not believe because you are not of My sheep. [27] My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; [28] and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. [29] My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. [30] I and the Father are one.”
Galatians 5:16 NASB
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.

If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.
No matter how prophetic a person is, no person, not even a prophet, knows everything.
1 Corinthians 13:9 NASB
For we know in part and we prophesy in part.
What are the differences between a very prophetic person and a person called to the Office of a Prophet.
Ephesians 4:11-13 NASB
And He gave SOME as apostles, and SOME as prophets, and SOME as evangelists, and SOME as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the FULLNESS OF CHRIST.
The purpose for the offices are to establish the foundation of the church, release revelation that transforms you, impart and activate the gifts of the Holy Spirit, create unity within the body, raise the body into maturity, and encourage the body to receive the full revelation of Christ in and on each believer with the activation of the gifts allowing for powerful demonstrations to point all who witness the signs and wonders to Jesus Christ.
Study scripture, and you'll find that signs and wonders are generally for the unbelievers and follow the preaching of the Gospel.
Whereas the gift of prophecy is primarily for the church, the body of Christ.
1 Corinthians 14:22 NASB
So then tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophecy is for a sign, not to unbelievers but to those who believe.

Although there are many teachings against the pursuit of gifts, God desires that you pursue the gifts, especially prophecy. He just doesn't want us to pursue them in spite of Him or function in them without His leading.
1 Corinthians 14:1-5 NASB
Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit, he speaks mysteries. But one who prophesies speaks to men for EDIFICATION and EXHORTATION and CONSOLATION (encourage, build up, and bring comfort) . One who speaks in a tongue edifies himself; but one who prophesies EDIFIES THE CHURCH. Now I wish that you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy; and greater is one who prophesies than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may receive edifying.
The nine gifts of the Spirit listed in 1 Corinthians 12:7-12.
The gifts should be stewarded in a way that they produce the nine fruit of the spirit found in (Galatians 5:22-23)
The gifts of the Holy Spirit are subject to the same Spirit who gives it, who is the Holy Spirit.
The type of fruit you produce while prophesying reveals the spirit in which you are receiving your prophecy.
Matthew 7:15-18 NASB
“Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree can not produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit.
Prophetic voices with no community and accountability are in danger of turning themselves into wolves.
God desires all His people to grow into maturity, both in our walk and as prophetic voices (1 Corinthians 14:20), and be grounded within a mature and accountable community (Proverbs 15:22, Proverb 11:14).
The motive of prophecy and all the gifts, when demonstrated, must be demonstrated with love as shared in 1 Corinthians 13. Any demonstration of the gifts without love profits God nothing and are like filthy rags.
