Also known as "Four Grandmother Songs" and "Old Granny's Tales"
Composed in New York in 1918, during the first year of his self-imposed exile from Russia. Premiered by the composer in New York, January 7, 1919. These four short pieces won immediate acceptance and were widely performed by soviet pianists.
Prokofiev wrote the epigraph, "Some recollections had become half erased from her memory; others will never be erased."

Note the melody that begins at 6:35; impossible to imagine this written by anyone but Mr Prokofiev.
