First things first - I found a source for parts for old pressure cookers, including gaskets for my 50 year old MirroMatic. Very useful site to have around, if your pressure cooker is ever so slightly out of warranty, as mine is!

I really don't know why, but I'd never gotten around to cooking dried beans in the pressure cooker, so it was about time! I cooked up an experimental batch of Crowder Peas, letting them cook under pressure for 30 minutes, instead of the normal two hours plus, and they turned out every bit *AS* good! Absolutely delightful, and in about the same time as it took me to make the cornbread to go with them.
I will definitely be doing them this way from now on, and next I'll be whipping up a batch of Red Beans the same way, another one that normally takes all day.
