🚶♂️ Just Walking – No Talking
Polperro to Looe – A Stunning Cornwall Coastal Path Walk
A dramatic stretch of the South West Coast Path linking two of Cornwall’s most iconic fishing villages: Polperro and Looe. This walk is a true showcase of Cornwall’s southern coast, with clifftop paths, sheltered coves, and endless sea views. The route feels like a step back in time, where narrow village streets give way to rugged, wind-swept headlands and footpaths lined with wildflowers.
🕰️ Highlights, History & Local Lore
Starting in Polperro, you’re immediately immersed in one of Cornwall’s prettiest and most historic harbours. Once a bustling centre for pilchard fishing and smuggling, the village is a maze of whitewashed cottages clinging to steep hillsides, linked by narrow alleys and slate steps. Fishing boats still bob in the small tidal harbour, while the old net lofts and storied pubs whisper tales of Cornwall’s maritime past.
Leaving Polperro behind, the coastal path begins its climb, weaving along high cliffs that offer sweeping views across the English Channel. The route passes secluded coves and rocky headlands, where the only company is seabirds riding the thermals and the rhythmic crash of waves far below. The South West Coast Path here feels untamed, yet carefully trodden, with benches at scenic points inviting a pause to soak in the view.
As you approach Looe, the scenery softens, with rolling hills and woodland edging the path before the estuary comes into view. Looe itself is another postcard-perfect Cornish town, divided by a tidal river and known for its sandy beach, fishing fleet, and lively waterfront. From smugglers’ haunts to seaside holiday charm, this walk connects two villages that perfectly encapsulate Cornwall’s coastal soul.
