As of Wednesday this week, authorities in China have removed about 110 tons (220,000 pounds) of dead fish from a 40 kilometer section of the Fuhe river in Hubei province. Exactly how many fish were removed is unknown. Locals report that almost all the fish have died out in that section of the river.

Hubei environmental officials says that the reason for all the dead fish is the ammonia in the water which came from a local chemical plant. The officials have told the company, named Shuanghuan Science and Technology Stock Company, to cease operations.
