A mom and dad in China were shocked after discovering that their one-week-old daughter had been given milk formula with some very strong liquor added to it.
This happened on June 6, and believe it or not, the parents themselves were partly responsible.
You see, they were they ones who had brought in the baijiu, it's a type of Chinese white wine, with 50% alcohol. They, for some reason, put in this plastic water bottle. So yes, it could've very easily been mistaken for, water.
And that's exactly what happened. After rubbing her body with the Baijiu, which by the way is a custom for some Chinese people, the mother found her baby girl crying, and just thoughtlessly put the plastic bottle down, instead of storing it away inside a drawer.
Then, the parents asked their nurse to make some baby formula for their baby, while they tried to calm her down.
And, that's when the terrible mistake happened. Without checking, the nurse poured the clear liquid from the plastic bottle into the milk formula, and gave it to the parents.
After just a couple of sips, the baby girl turned red and started to vomit. Soon the adults in the room realize they could smell alcohol, and rushed the baby to the emergency room.
Doctors had to pump her stomach, and after a couple of days in intensive care, she was discharged. Thankfully, no permanent damage was done.
The nurse has also been suspended.
Maybe the nurse had no reason to think that the water bottle contained anything other than water, but, between the liquid pouring out, mixing the milk and giving it to the parents, she should've smelled the 50% alcohol!
And, what about the parents? How about not storing liquor in a water bottle, or at least making sure you put it away properly.
The only good thing here is that the baby girl is fine.
So, do you think this is something that could've been completely prevented, if the adults in the room had just used a bit more common sense?
