Police have identified a suspect accused of threatening people in Philadelphia while wearing a "Chucky-style" mask and reportedly asking a woman if she was "ready to die."
Zymire Hughes, 22, has an active arrest warrant, and police said he may have already fled Pennsylvania. Officials also believe he has connections to California and Nevada.
Police previously said the suspect chased a 40-year-old woman on Aug. 12 around 5:30 a.m. and made the threatening comment.
During another encounter that morning, a bystander identified as Jameka said she tried to warn the jogger who was being followed by the masked man. She said the suspect then turned his attention toward her, prompting her to scream for help before she ultimately kicked him in the chest.
“He just seemed so disoriented about what his goals actually were,” Jameka told ABC7, adding that the man did not appear interested in taking the bags she was carrying.
The suspect was “wearing a white baby doll style Halloween mask with black hair, and a black/blue plaid backpack,” according to police.
Hughes is wanted for terroristic threats, simple assault and related offenses. Investigators believe the masked man recorded the encounters, though it remains unclear whether they were part of a social media trend.
Police urged anyone who sees Hughes to call 911 immediately and not approach him.
