The Rochester Police Department announced Thursday that 22 people were arrested in an investigation into a drug and weapons trafficking ring.
Capt. Greg Bello said police had been investigating Jarvis Corbit's drug network for about a year. The investigation initially culminated June 24, when police executed search warrants at 14 locations across the city. Corbit was among 16 people arrested on drug and/or weapons charges.
Bello said Corbit was held on bail but released "within days" and resumed his drug operation, prompting police to renew their investigation. Officers executed 10 more search warrants Wednesday, arresting Corbit and six other people on drug and/or weapons charges.
As a result of the 24 search warrants, police said they seized 20 handguns, four assault-style rifles, two shotguns, a crossbow, approximately 3 1/2 kilograms of suspected cocaine, approximately 3 1/2 kilograms of suspected fentanyl and 75 oxycodone pills.
"Think about how many people — we talk about fentanyl overdoses on a daily basis — three and a half kilograms of fentanyl, and how many lives did that save by the long-term investigation," Bello said.
FBI Buffalo Special Agent in Charge Allen Davis said the Safe Streets Task Force Rochester played a role in the investigation.
"The Safe Streets Task Force Rochester brings together the FBI, Rochester Police Department, and our federal, state, and local partners, including all who stand behind me today," Davis said. "With one mission, identify the individuals driving violence, take down their criminal activity, and get them off Rochester streets."
