The Polar Vortex invaded. Ice crystal light show shenanigans ensued. Temperature bottomed out at one point to -30*F! Wind Chills made it as low as -50! Is this really unusual, does this happen more now? What does climate change have to do with it? I Breakdown...the Polar Vortex break-down.

What are these halos and lights in the sky? Here are some of the phenomena visible in this video:
Pillars
Sun Dogs (Parhelia)
22 degree Halo
Circumzenith Arc (Ice rainbow above your head)
Parhelic Circle (Intersection of Sun and Sun Dogs, sometimes visible all around the entire sky!)
All are produced by plate shaped water-ice crystals, very similar to snowflakes but "more perfectly" shaped.
In my timelapses you can actually see the drifting snow across the prairies kicked up from the 20-30 mph winds that accompanied the polar vortex breakdown.
