This team began as I was doing some breeding and was focused on Hoppip to see what would happen and little other reason. By sheer chance, before I even had the Shiny Charm yet, I would hatch a shiny Hoppip, and my breeding of them ended right then and there: I knew I would have Jumpluff headline a team. So I took to figuring out what sort of team Jumpluff would have a good place in for a single battle; it seems that later on, Jumpluff would prove to be a popular choice for double battle teams, including finding itself in Regional Championships finals. But this is a single battle team, and the approach is different.

There was one major looming threat in single battles under Regulation A, though one that turned out to be overblown: Palafin. Lumineon is in this team solely to fight Palafin, who originally had Whirlpool rather than Soak to trap Palafin, preventing it from switching out or using Flip Turn to switch out (via Storm Drain), followed by Terastallization to Electric and Tera Blast until Palafin is down. As it turns out, the worry over Palafin was unfounded, and Palafin, while a fairly common sight at the start, grew increasingly unpopular in the 3v3 format with Team Preview because the disadvantages to having to switch out was not worth the boost to Palafin’s stats. If you use Palafin, switching out to activate Zero to Hero means your opponent likely can guess who is switching out in its place and strategize accordingly, usually putting you at a tremendous disadvantage.
New battle regulations were also turning up, with Paradox Pokémon and Treasures of Ruin now becoming available. Flutter Mane was the biggest threat among them, as were Chien-Pao, two very fast, very hard-hitting attackers, commonly equipped with Focus Sash. Hence, Seviper and Klawf were there to get the drop on them in different ways: Seviper with a high-risk, high-reward Tera-boosted Reversal, and Klawf gaining a boost in Speed with Trailblaze and Anger Shell while it takes said hard hits and boosts Attack further. I could also use Slither Wing’s Flame Charge in similar ways, but it’s more limited.
Slither Wing, would, of course, reflect the more relaxed regulations as my first Paradox Pokémon in these teams. I see no advantages nor disadvantages for using Paradox Pokémon or Treasures of Ruin (besides the latter’s Abilities, which is why I have yet to use any of them), and in fact, I correctly predicted Slither Wing to be at or near the bottom of the Ancient Paradox Pokémon (me playing the Scarlet version, it’s easier for me to get Ancient ones than Future ones). I initially guessed Scream Tail and considered it for this team, but I didn’t want two “fast wall” Pokémon on the team, and Scream Tail would eventually start finding greater competitive use while Slither Wing remained at the bottom. Scream Tail remains in consideration in the future.
I do not remember why Seviper’s Effort Points are irregular, why I didn’t just go for the maximum possible Speed. This is also one of the few teams I made to not have Focus Sash.
