Season M-B has begun, and with it sub-season M-3 (the game calls them both “seasons,” but I use “sub-season” to avoid confusion), so this is the first video whose battles are within that season. No new stages, unfortunately, but a few more Pokémon, some more music tracks, and more hold items. I have the strong feeling this game was not finished in a state that they wanted but was prssured to have something out by the World Championships in August. As this format will remain to September, this will be the format used in the World Championships.
As I am still unsure of what new threats to watch out for (Grimmsnarl, Mega Staraptor, Mega Eelektross, and Mega Metagross have been added to that list), I’m sticking with the Aurorus and Forretress Teams for now.

You can tell this battle is part of Season M-B because the music here is one of the newly added tracks: there are five from Pokémon Legends: Z-A and two from Pokémon X and Y.
Last Respects packs a wallop even when not at full power—I made the mistake of prioritizing Charizard and Whimsicott over Basculegion, when I should’ve stopped that fish before Last Respects got too powerful to handle. Of course, I came off of a series of matches where Basculegion used Protect at untimely moments and Mega Charizard Y had its stats adjusted to be able to continue battling after a Thunderbolt, so I was wary about those possibilities.

Opponent’s Pokémon: Meowstic (Male), Alakazam, Maushold, Flapple
My opponent began with the Meowstic-Alakazam start, in which Meowstic uses Prankster to set Psychic Terrain, then Alakazam Mega Evolves and uses Expanding Force at, well, tremendous force. And 150 Speed. Instead, I was preparing for a Fake Out that didn’t occur. Interesting that Rigel (Manectric) could go first before Alakazam, considering Mega Manectric’s base Speed is the lower (but still impressive) 135. Gravity also works stupendously well with Maushold’s Population Bomb attack, which has a 90% accuracy check for each of its ten hits and ends when any of them miss: Gravity ensures Population Bomb has 100% accuracy and will always hit all ten times.
This is the first match I’ve ever seen in Pokémon Champions where somebody used Flapple. It can be very fearsome in a team designed to support it, and that Meowstic was definitely it. Grav Apple, can hit with 120 power, and likely on top of its Ability, Hustle, which reduces accuracy by 20% (which is undone with Gravity) but increases the user’s Attack by 50%. Then you combine it with STAB and how it always reduces Defense on the target.

Opponent’s Pokémon: Charizard, Incineroar, Garchomp, Arcanine (Hisuian)
This battle was about as straightforward as it gets, using this team’s signature counters to common stuff I found in Season M-A. My opponent is probably looking forward to Kricketune turning up in Champions, however long that’ll take.
Strange to see Arcanine target Paolo (Quaquaval) for Head Smash over Lamar (Aurorus), which would’ve been super-effective and surely a knockout, though I was prepared for in case they did that.

Opponent’s Pokémon: Ninetales (Alolan), Metagross, Sneakers (Sneasler), Garchomp
Here, you’ll see one of the returning Pokémon and a big threat in Season M-B, Metagross, especially its Meta Evolution. It has 145 Attack, 150 Defense, and augmented by Tough Claws, giving it 30% extra power on contact moves. Aside from HP, which doesn’t change upon Mega Evolution, all of Mega Metagross’s stats are 105 or higher making it both resilient and surprisingly fast (110 Speed, faster than base Manectric). I would’ve liked to wait a turn for Metagross to Mega Evolve to inflict Intimidate on it (Clear Body, one of Metagross’s non-Mega Abilities, blocks it), but that Alolan Ninetales would’ve certainly used either Aurora Veil or Blizzard, and I couldn’t afford to lose a turn with Protect.
I also take it that my opponent was so terrified of Mac (Mudsdale), having nearly one-shotted Mega Metagross, that they picked him to hit with Metagross’s Iron Head instead of Lamar (Aurorus), which would’ve certainly knocked him out due to having 4x weakness to Steel.
