A completely fan made re-build of Pokemon Emerald with upgraded graphics and mechanics just dropped a free-to-play early access demo
Gamma Emerald’s been making the rounds online for a little while now, but the recent popularity of the generation 1 recompilation projects and 3D overhaul mods seemingly pushed this one out of hiding - and regardless of how you feel about the shadowbox 2.5D artstyle, there’s no denying this one’s got some passion behind it
Everything up until Mauville City’s playable currently, but after that, it’s all fully remade tile-by-tile
There’s a day/night cycle, real-time shadows, and a handful of quality of life updates to make the game more comfortable to play in 2026
It’s not perfect or anything, yet - but there’s a discord you can join for all sorts of updates, and HOPEFULLY nothing bad happens to the project - this pokemon stuff always makes me nervous to even talk about
