Oh nice, another reason to NOT use Windows in 2026
Turns out setting your microsoft laptop to eco mode for too long will actually make the thing worse at gaming when you go back to performance mode
Windows gaming laptops are notoriously bad on battery life, which is why it’s becoming increasingly common for manufacturers to implement an eco mode that switches your device to run off of your CPU’s integrated graphics module rather than the dedicated physical card inside the machine
Which is great - it gives you better battery life, and is overall more power efficient - but since windows is dumb and stinky, there’s of course a catch
OK-Horse-3169 on Reddit stumbled upon the forbidden knowledge that after around 15-30 days of running eco mode, it’s possible that Windows will decide to just delete the drivers for your discrete card and replace them with a generic one due to the operating system essentially treating the internal processor as a glorified USB drive, and replacing the files in an attempt to conserve resources
