Everything you hate about talking to AI on the phone is about to get a LOT worse
If you call 911 in New Orleans, you aren’t connected with a human being - instead you’re greeted with a quote “AI Emergency Call Triage system” that promises to somehow connect callers to human dispatchers faster than before
They’re the first major US city to do this, and while it sounds like a horrible idea on paper - to their credit, it’s only supposed to activate when all none of the on-staff humans are available to answer OR if the location of a call is within 200 meters of an incident that’s already been reported
On paper, it’s meant to reduce the amount of redundant calls being answered by real people - and anyone who reports a new emergency to the AI gets immediately connected with one - but I know personally if it were ME or MY FAMILY being affected and I heard an AI voice on the other line, it would not make me a happy camper
