Poet: Kim Stafford
William Stafford died in August 1993, but, his son, Kim Stafford has continued to assist his father’s publishing efforts. “Brethren Voices” Host, Brent Carlson meets with the son of the Oregon Poet Laureate, to learn the secrets of William Stafford.
A highly recognized writer himself, Kim admits he only started following his father’s example in recent years. He states, “ I recognize daily writing as a change agent in one’s life. I’m a hypocrite if I don’t do it.”
He now gets up every morning before the sun comes up and commits something to paper.
His father began this routine as a young man while serving as a conscientious objector, in a Civilian Conservation Camp during World War II. “It’s not always something worthy,” Stafford says, but it’s always a better day for having written something.”
In this edition of “Brethren Voices,” Kim shares some of his own works including songs that he has written.
