Why do you only see 6 stars in the Pleiades… when there are supposed to be 7?

The Pleiades — also known as the Seven Sisters — is one of the most famous star clusters in the night sky. But most people can only see six with the naked eye.

So… is one star really missing?

The truth is more fascinating. Two of the stars — Atlas and Pleione — sit so close together that your eyes often merge them into one. What looks like a missing star… is actually a limitation of human vision.

Look up tonight.
Find Orion’s Belt → move up toward Taurus.
That tiny cluster of blue stars? That’s the Pleiades.

Once you see it… you can’t unsee it.
