The backlash towards PlayStation's all-digital future continues and it will never ever stop. It's starting to bombard tweets that literally have nothing to do with the decision like indie games promotion. I genuinely feel bad for them. They got community noted like crazy and no one pays attention to them. The backlash is going to continue. It will keep on going strong as long as Sony keeps on doing this, but as I said before, if Sony is in a way better position than right now, they wouldn't do this dumb move.
I also said a while back that PlayStation is bleeding money, but what I should've said more accurately is that they are bleeding profits. It's close to what's happening to Xbox, except Xbox is actually bleeding money now. They only gain 64 cents for every one-dollar investment, as they explicitly say.
PlayStation does earn more than a dollar from their one-dollar investment. That's not bleeding cash. That's still making profits. However, they used to earn 3-5 dollars per one dollar investment. Not an accurate figure, but just for illustrative purposes. They expect to earn way more than what they earn right now per dollar, and what they're earning right now is shrinking to the point where there will be a point of equilibrium where every dollar wasted is every dollar earned.
Sony discontinues physical copies not because they want to dominate the games market with their digital copies, or not just because of that at least. They still do want to do that, but it's not entirely because of that. PlayStation's profit margins are shrinking, and they have to gain whatever profit margins they can even if it's at the expense of consumer satisfaction.
If you want PlayStation to bring back physical, then PlayStation would have to be successful again and not make stupid decisions after stupid decisions, but unfortunately, them making stupid investments is way out of our hands.
