Welcome to day 9 of the Archaeology Advent! Today's site is the "mysterious" Plain of Jars in Laos.
The Plain of Jars gets its name from the over 2100 megalithic stone jars ranging from 1 to 3 meters in heights and weighing up to 20 meters around the upland valleys and the lower foothills of the central plain of the Xiangkhoang Plateau. Local legends have claimed the jars to have been cups for giants, or jars to make rice wine or rice beer, but archaeological investigations point to the site being used for funerary practices.
