The oldest cheese in the world has been found strung around the necks of the Tarim Basin mummies at the site of Xiaohe in the Taklamakan Desert. My favourite fact: They were lactose-intolerant! But kefir cheese helps on that front, and the inhabitants of the Taklamakan Desert figured that out.
