I found this little Pika running around and chirping his little squeak on top of a mountain. He runs every time I sniffle, but I got so close to him! I named him Kevin.
The North American Rock Pika is native to the Canadian Rockies and likes making their dens in the crags of rocks on cliffs and occasionally mountain tops. This Pika let me get very close and was curious about me, but very cautious. Every time I sniffled (because it was a cool day) he would scurry away, then let me get close again, then scurry away when I sniffled again. It was a special moment with my new found Pika friend.
Pikas do not squeak. It's more of a chirp or an "eeep". You can distinctly hear his chirp 4 times in this video and see him do it on the last one! Pikas aren't actually related to mice, they are closer to the hare and rabbit family. But they look like little mice.
