Siffleur Falls is considered by some to be one of Alberta's most underrated hikes! Come see the stunning varied trail to Siffleur Falls.
We hiked to Siffleur Falls at the end of November, but were presented with weather more similar to Autumn than winter. This allowed us to get amazing footage of the trail and a semi-frozen Siffleur Falls. This hike is an easy to moderate hike located just beyond Abraham Lake in the beautiful David Thompson Country just west of Nordegg Alberta. The trail takes you through some diverse terrain, from windswept montane on a boardwalk, over Alberta's longest pedestrian suspension bridge, along a stunning canyon, through forest, to the stunning Siffleur Falls. We stopped at the first falls, but beyond them the trail skirts the river through the forest before walking along the creek bed in the canyon to the second and third falls.
Siffleur Falls is a very family friendly Alberta hike, and great for all ages, especially up to the first falls (which are by far the most magnificent). Most people turn around at this point and venture back for around a 2-3 hour return hike. Up to the third falls extends the 4km trek to an 8km (16km return) day hike.
CAUTION!!!!
Overall, Siffleur Falls is a must-see hike. However, PLEASE use extreme caution, and keep children nearby and pets on a leash at all times. Many hikers have lost their lives on this trail because of a lack of caution or trying to save a pet, as we discuss in the video. Nearing the canyon and gorges it is easy to get too close to what looks rather unassuming, but one misstep and tragedy can strike, as the various memorials on this hike can attest to.
