Backpacking doesn't HAVE to be expensive! When I was a beginner backpacker I needed to keep to a tight budget. Here's how I did it!

For far too many people, the "cost" of backpacking is what keeps them away from one of the greatest hobbies on earth! But because I firmly believe that the backcountry is for everyone, I wanted to share how I started backpacking on a budget. My Big 3 (tent, sleeping bag, backpack) all came in WELL under $300 US, which enabled me to start my budget backpacking journey all under $500. Compare that to the $1000-$2000 that it can cost if you by from big box stores, and I think this way is a far better way to start backpacking!
